As we celebrate Muslim Women’s Day, as well as the many women’s movements that have captivated the country, we are reminded that women of color in media are still few and far between. According to Spotify, a recent study shows only 22 percent of podcasts are hosted by women, and an even smaller number of women of color.
You have the ability to change that.
Spotify is launching Sound Up Bootcamp, an intensive podcasting program for women of color. At Sound Up, 10 women of color will receive an all-expenses paid trip to Spotify’s headquarters in New York to learn all about the art of the podcast. Attendees will participate in workshops, panels, pitches and mentorship from professional journalists.
On the final day of the workshop, participants will have the opportunity to pitch their podcast ideas for a chance to be funded up to $10,000.
The bootcamp will take place from June 25-29 at Spotify’s New York offices. Participants must attend all five days of programming.
To apply, you must self-identify as a woman of color. Applications are due April 10, 2018 by 11:59 ET.
